SUPPORTED ACCOMMODATION
Adjacent to our Worship Centre in Rosebud, the Uniting Church has provided land for a building project which provides specialist disability accommodation for up to eight adults who live with significant disabilities.
Four independant self contained units, each equipped to accommodate two people with disabilities, have been built to NDIS design category "High Physical Support".
They are suitable for people who qualify for NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding.
Southern Mornington Peninsula Uniting Church (SMPUC) were part of this development for over 9 years. In 2012 SMPUC identified Ageing Parents of people with intellectual disabilties as a particularly marginalised group in our community .
One such group came to the notice of SMPUC, and subsequently SMPUC supported their organisation - Community Lifestyle Accommodation [CLA], an incorporated group of ageing parents of people with intellectual disabilities, throughout four years of fundraising and development of building concepts.
After an extensive process of building design, and redesign to meet emerging standards set by the the (then) new NDIS , funding by Federal and State Governments was confirmed in 2016 ($1m from each government), for the construction of a complying Specialist Disabilty Accomodation (SDA) complex.
Community Bendigo Bank made a substantial contribution ($250 000) and the local / church community also contributed funding- most significantly, $240 000 of capital funding, and the land that the Uniting Church made available for the project. In 2020 The local congregation also allocated funds for the fit-out of the new building.
The building construction was project managed by Property Services Group of Uniting Church in Australia VicTas.
The building is accreditted as NDIS SDA accommodation, and the building meets a range of other stringent relevant compliances. The complex is managed by a Registered SDA Manager and, as required by NDIS Regulations, operates at arms-length from the Uniting Church. The SDA Manager operates in compliance with Government and NDIS Rergulations under the oversight of the NDIA.
